Armor of God
Ephesians 6:10-19
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
This passage talks about the “armor of God”. In the fight of good against evil, God actually uses his people to fight against the attacks of the devil. But God is always with His people. And He wants to equip them to fight this battle against evil, so He gives us some pretty awesome “armor”. This armor isn’t literally real - it’s a symbol to help us understand how God prepares us to have victory against evil and the lies of the devil.
Each of the six pieces of armor, from the Ephesians 6 passage, are listed below. Each item includes a description of what it symbolizes.
1.Belt of truth = truth is the piece that holds all of the other armor in place
Jesus is the truth that shields you from the devil’s lies
2. Breastplate of righteousness = righteousness (“being seen as good by God”) protects our heart
Jesus has made you right with God and guards your heart
3. Shoes of the gospel = following the path God gives us
Always be ready to share the good news of Jesus anywhere you go
4. Shield of faith = a defensive mechanism to protect yourself against lies from the enemy
Your faith shield stops all of the devil’s tricks
5. Helmet of salvation = when we know we are saved, we won’t be deceived
Knowing you’re saved protect you and sends the devil away
6. Sword of the spirit = the only offensive weapon in the passage, it’s how we become familiar with the Bible and apply it’s truths in our life
Get to know the Bible and speak it’s truths as you meet other people
